ISKANDAR PUTERI (08/12/2016): A suspected burglar, in a bid to escape a man whose house he tried to break into earlier, was killed in an accident in Taman Nusantara near here yesterday.

The 25-year-old man, who sustained serious facial and body injuries, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Gelang Patah health clinic.

In the 10.30am incident, district police chief Superintendant Noor Hashim Mohamad said the suspected burglar was riding pillion with an accomplice when the motorcycle they were riding slammed into a boulder along a stretch near the housing area.

The seriously injured man was rushed to the clinic for treatment. His accomplice, however, fled the scene immediately after the accident.

Noor Hashim said the duo were trying to run away from their would-be victim who was chasing them in a car. "They were in the midst of entering a house when the homeowner saw what they were doing and shouted at them.

When they jumped onto the motorcycle, the homeower decided to chase them in his car," "About four kilometres away, the motorcycle rider lost control of the machine and crashed."

He said checks showed that the motorcycle was a stolen vehicle. Hashim said the case is being investigated under Section 447/511 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass and Section 379 of the same act for motorcyle theft.
