Man bashed up for quizzing parking fee demand

GEORGE TOWN (24/11/2016) : A 38-year-old man received 30 stitches on his head after being beaten up by a jaga kereta (illegal car park attendant) and four of his friends in Weld Quay here.

The man, who wanted to be known only as Khor (pic), said he had just parked his car when the jaga kereta, in his 50s, approached him and asked for a parking fee on Monday.

“I asked him why I needed to pay him for parking by the roadside and he replied that I just needed to pay. I handed him RM50 but he refused to take it as he had no change.

“I then went to a shop to try and get some change but he got angry and started to shout at me,” he said when contacted yesterday, adding that he was with his two sons, aged four and six, at that time.

Khor said he wanted to pay the jaga kereta but there was nothing he could do as he had no change on him.
“He then left but came back later with four of his friends, armed with iron rods and sticks, They then proceeded to beat me up.

“I was left bruised and bleeding. I managed to make my way to the Penang Hospital where I received outpatient treatment.

“I made report at the Patani Road police station the next day,” he said.

Khor said he would be attending an identification parade today to identify his assailants.
