Cousins sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping Form Three student

KUALA LUMPUR (16/12/2016): Two cousins were today sentenced to life in prison by the High Court here for kidnapping a 15-year-old teenager four years ago.

Judge Datuk Mohd Azam Husin passed the sentence on B. Sundar, 31, and K. Navaneethan, 38, after the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case.

According to the fact sheet, the duo were charged with the abduction of a Form Three student with the intention of demanding a ransom of RM3 million in front of a house at Jalan Midah Tengah, Taman Midah, Cheras at 1.30am on Oct 7 2012.

They were charged under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which caries a mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment, upon conviction.

Mohd Azam also ordered the duo’s jail term to run from the date of their arrest on Oct 13, 2012.

Sundar and Navaneethan represented by lawyers Fahmi Abd Moin and K. Kuldip, respectively, pleaded for a lenience sentence as the victim was unharmed during the abduction.

They said the court should consider the fact that the victim was well cared for by his abductors.
