19-year-old drug dealer caught red-handed

IPOH (16/12/2016): A 19-year-old man was arrested for allegedly peddling drugs at a house in Taman Ipoh Timur, here on Tuesday.

Following the arrest, police seized 2.42kg of substances believed to be heroine worth RM30,000 from the premise.

Ipoh police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong said the suspect was picked up while he was busy packing the substance at 5pm. “He was alone in the house.

We found him sitting on the floor packing the drugs when we raided the house. “We also found four packets of suspected heroine on the floor with him and another two packets were in a bag.

There were six packets in total,” Sum told a press conference at district police headquarters here today.

Sum revealed that the man had a criminal record when he was 16 for drugs-related offence and was sent to rehabilitation centre in Silibin.

“He was charged and sent to the rehabilitation centre as he was underaged at that time,” he said. Sum said based on initial investigations, the suspect has been actively smuggling drugs in the Ipoh area for about one month.

“He was also tested positive for methamphetamine and we believed that he acted alone,” he said, adding that the drugs seized was enough to be sold to 2,200 customers.

Apart from that, police also seized other equipment believed to be used in packaging the drugs including a weighing machine, sealer, spoon, small plastics, hammer and two mobile phones.

The man has been remanded for six days since Dec 13 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction and Section 15(1) of the same act for testing positive for drugs, which carries maximum two years’ jail or RM5,000 fine.
